Chosen for what it does not contain

The anhydrous form exists for its low moisture. In effervescent tablets a hydrate would release water and trigger premature reaction with bicarbonate, so anhydrous is mandatory there.

Cost premium and when it pays

It costs more per kilogram than the monohydrate, so it is specified only where moisture control genuinely matters rather than as a default.

Typical Applications

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute monohydrate?

Only in aqueous systems. In dry systems the water release causes caking or premature reaction.

Why is it more expensive?

Additional drying step after crystallisation.

What mesh for tablets?

30-60 mesh gives good flow and compressibility.
