Solid form for higher payload
The solid carries more active catalyst per kilogram than the solution, which reduces freight per unit of activity. The trade-off is much stricter moisture control in storage and handling.
Water reactivity is the main risk
Contact with moisture hydrolyses it to methanol and sodium hydroxide, generating heat. Packaging must stay sealed and transfer should be done under dry conditions.
Typical Applications
- Biodiesel production — 0.3-0.6 percent catalyst on oil weight.
- Organic synthesis — As a strong base in anhydrous conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Solid or solution?
